Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of six counts of rape

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of six counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault.

The Frenchman has been on trial at Chester Crown Court since August but has now been found not guilty on seven of the nine charges put to him.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on a further two charges against him, but the Crown Prosecution Service have confirmed they plan to pursue a retrial against Mendy and co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, who was found not guilty on three charges. Jurors failed to reach a verdict on a further six charges against Matturie.

“Manchester City FC notes the verdict from Chester Crown Court today, where a jury has found Benjamin Mendy not guilty of seven charges. The jury is hung on two charges and the trial is now over,” a club statement read.

“Given there are open matters related to this case, the Club is not in a position to comment further at this time.”
